The concept design starts with a meeting with our client on the Basis of Design as it is critical that Multi has a clear understanding of the customers’ demands for the vessel in terms of performance, but also, as example, the classification and flag to be applied, operational limitations, equipment manufacturers that are preferred etc..
The concept design is a relatively short time period in which the main design choices (dimensions, capacities, performance, ..) are made and main equipment in terms of power etc. are laid down. Hence, the costs of the unit during building but also operation are largely defined. Therefore the design method should be tailored to find the best compromise between the competing design aspects and a good process is required to offer the best solution in terms of investment.
This requires a high level of cooperation between Client and MULTI.engineering to discuss the various options for the vessel systems and finding the best compromise between the requirements put forward and the technical challenges. During this process the common goal and focus is to find the most reliable, safe and flexible concept vessel.
The concept design phase is closed once a design is reached with a relatively mature status, avoiding design changes in the succeeding basic design phase, i.e. the following design phases are related to detailing the design rather than problem solving.
The concept design package allows for budget tendering with shipyards. During these steps MULTI.engineering can provide technical support in discussion or validate different quotations if deemed necessarily.
The concept design deliverables will be the firm basis for the basic design where all technical issues can be addressed, checked and confirmed. Deliverable will be the complete technical information (drawings, calculation reports, ...) up to approval by the relevant regulatory bodies like flag state and classification society.
Based on a basic design supplied by MULTI.engineering or by an external company, Multi provides a detailed engineering package in which your vessel is completely engineered in 3D and a production package is supplied based on shipyard requirements. Covering steel, outfitting and Piping scope.
